This market consists of Washington County, Maryland. Hagerstown is the county seat of Hagerstown. Washington County is part of the Hagerstown–Martinsburg metropolitan area. Hagerstown was founded in 1762 and Washington County was formed in 1776. Hagerstown gained the nickname of “Hub City” because of the large number of railroads serving it. Hagerstown used to be home to Fairchild Aircraft, and was also known as the “Home of the Flying Boxcar” due to the construction of the Fairchild C-119 Flying Boxcar. Aviation is still a major industry in the county with the presence of Hagerstown Regional Airport. Washington County is home to Antietam National Battlefield near Sharpsburg.
