Located adjacent to Philadelphia, Delaware County is part of the Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington, PA-NJ-DE-MD metropolitan statistical area. The county’s populated areas are the suburbs of Philadelphia. It was split from Chester County in 1789 and named for the Delaware River. The county seat is Media. The area is often referred to as Delco.
The main routes in the county are Interstates 95 and 476; US Routes 1, 13, 30, 202, and 322; and PA Routes 3 and 291.
