About the Area

Blair County, located in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, had a population of 122,822 as of the 2020 census. Its county seat is Hollidaysburg, while Altoona is its largest city. Established on February 26, 1846, the county was formed from portions of Huntingdon and Bedford counties and is situated within the Southwest Pennsylvania region.

The Altoona Area School District is one of the largest employers in Blair County and was also the fifth district in the United States to be ISO 9001 certified. The district is home to Altoona Area High School, which has produced several state championships in basketball, cross country, and track and field. It has also produced several professional athletes, a US House Representative, an author, two musicians, and Betty James (who named the Slinky). The Hollidaysburg Area School District operates Hollidaysburg Area High School. Hollidaysburg has produced several athletes, a film director, and two politicians, including PA State Senator Judy Ward. An additional college preparatory high school, Bishop Guilfoyle Academy, is available for high school students.

Greater Altoona Career and Technology Center is available for high school students seeking trade education. The Center also offers education and diplomas in various career paths to adults.
