Berkeley County lies within the Shenandoah Valley. The county is part of the Hagerstown–Martinsburg metropolitan area. The county seat is Martinsburg. There is a town, Hedgesville, two census-designated places, Falling Waters and Inwood, and a number of unincorporated communities. In addition for being known for its scenery, Berkeley County is also known for being a transportation hub. Martinsburg is home to Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport and various railroads. Interstate 81, US Route 11, West Virginia Route 7 run the length of the county, while West Virginia 9, 45, and 51 run the width of the county.
