Bedford is an equal distance between Harrisburg and Pittsburgh. Adjacent to Kegerreis’s market area are All Seasons Resort, Blue Knob, Shawnee, and Warriors Path State Parks, and several state game lands. Additional points of interest include the Barclay House, Chalybeate Springs Hotel, architectural novelty the Coffee Pot, Espy House, and Fort Bedford Museum. Covered bridges are an important attraction in the area.
Bedford hosts the Fall Foliage Festival during the first two weekends of October. The festival is designed to bring local arts, crafts, and culture together. There are over 400 vendors, live local entertainers, and kids’ activities.
JLG, REI, and Walmart have distribution centers near this strategic corridor. Historic Bedford Springs Resort, run by Omni, is a major employer. It features 216 rooms, a conference facility, a golf course, a mineral springs pool, a restaurant, the Springs Eternal Spa, and a tavern, among other indoor and outdoor amenities. The Springs Resort was the summer White House for the Buchanan administration, and in the summer of 1856, it hosted the US Supreme Court.
There are six school districts, two of which are in-market, Bedford Area School District and Everett Area School District. These districts offer small, but proud, high schools. High School students may also attend Bedford County Technical Center. Young adults can study at Allegany College of Maryland’s Everett campus.
