Centre County, named for its central location in PA, includes Bellefonte (county seat), Port Matilda, Sandy Ridge, Spring Mills, and State College. State College is home to Penn State University-Main Campus, Beaver Stadium, and the Penn State Nittany Lions football team.
Opportunities exist along PA 26 and 45 in the State College area, PA 45 between Spring Mills and Millheim, ALT US 220 outside Port Matilda, and around Bellefonte along PA 550. These routes lead directly to and from I-99, I-80, US 22, and US 15.

The top employers in Kegerreis’ State College market include Penn State, the county, state, and federal governments, Mount Nittany Medical Center, the school districts, Walmart, Glenn O Hawbaker (construction), Geisinger Clinic, Giant Food Stores, Weis Markets, Mount Nittany Medical Center Health Services, Restek Corporation, and Wegmans Food Markets. Additional employers include Raytheon, Sheetz, AccuWeather, US Infrastructure Corporation, and MilliporeSigma. Transportation employers include Centre Area Transportation Authority, Fullington Trailways, Mid-State Regional Airport, and State College Regional Airport.
Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) is located in State College. It is ranked 89th in the “US World University Rankings 2025,” “R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity” by Carnegie, and is 26th in “research and development spending” according to the National Science Foundation. Penn State is known for its work in atmospheric research, radiation science and engineering, and acoustics. Penn State’s athletic program has 82 national collegiate team championships and 74 individual Olympic medals.
South Hills School of Business & Technology is also located in State College and offers degrees in business, graphic arts, health care, and technology. Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology (CPIST) is located north of State College, in Pleasant Gap. CPIST offers post-secondary programs and programs for high school students interested in the trades.
Bald Eagle, Bellefonte, Penns Valley, and State College are the school districts within Kegerreis’ market area. Bald Eagle operates a junior/senior high school, competes in District 6 athletics, and has several state athletic championships. Bellefonte Area School District operates several schools, including Bellefonte Area High School, which has championships in baseball and softball. Bellefonte High School’s roof is home to a solar array built in 2011. The school produced Anna Keichline, the first female architect. Daniel Hastings was Bellfonte’s principal in the late 1860s, he went on to become the 21st PA Governor. Wrestler Jeremy Rose became a horse jockey and won the Belmont Stakes and Preakness Stakes in 2005. Penns Valley Area School District runs Penns Valley Area High School. PVAHS is known for its Decathlon and Track and Field programs. State College Area School District runs State College Area High School (State High), which is within walking distance from Penn State. Through the Delta Program, State High allows students to democratically choose to take classes from the high school, Delta, and Penn State. The first in-car driver’s education in the United States was offered at State High in 1933 by Penn State professor Amos Neyhart.
