About the Area

The Guilford County market consists of the entire county of Guilford, including its seat, the city of Greensboro. The region was inhabited by the Sara/Cheraw people when Europeans first encountered them.

The 1740s featured the first waves of European settlement, largely by Lutherans, Quakers, Presbyterians, and Wesleyan Methodists. Guilford County was established in 1771 and is now the third-most populous county in North Carolina. In 1808, the new town of Greensboro was established as the county seat. The city of Greensboro is now the third-largest city in North Carolina.

Since 1800, the region has had a robust economy. Initially, this economy was based on textiles and tobacco, both of which remain strong players in the region. The region’s economy has diversified in recent decades and has become hub for international corporations designing and manufacturing groundbreaking technologies.
